Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct an inspection of electric power generating plant and associated equipment.Aninspectionis an organisedexamination of power generation plant and equipment exposed to conditions that can cause deterioration. Power generation plant and equipment should be inspected at regular intervals. Competency in this unit requires the ability to inspect power generating plant, gain safe access to work area for inspection, conducting inspections and reporting and/or recording the results. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator. Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Element: Prepare for power plantinspection
  • Maintenance and operating history for inspection is obtained, in accordance with workplace procedures for process plant to be inspected
       
Element: Inspection requirements for power generation plant are determined and confirmed, in accordance with workplace procedures and Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
       
Element: Appropriate inspection check lists recording equipment and personal protective equipment are obtained, in accordance with workplace procedures for process plant to be inspected
       
Element: Availability and access to power generation plant is determined, in accordance with workplace procedures and isolation processes
